30 days…30 nights in T&T

Thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and support staff at St. Clair Medical.  To the doctors who performed open heart surgery on my Dad, thank you.

The Good 30/30 in T&T

  1. It was good to be home with my family for the holidays.  Christmas was extra special and the New Year/New Decade was a celebration of life.
  2. The food was great….I think I ate enough for 2010.  I drank sorrel till I was sick.  Roti from Don’s in Petit Valley.  Bake and king fish….yummy.  Corn soup round ‘d’ savannah.  Trini Subway….delicious….it was shrimp salad with shadow benny and garlic sauce; the Subways in the US can’t touch Trini Subways.  Curry fries and parata wrap from Tandori in Trincity Mall very different.  And of course my Mum home cook food.  So much food only one of me.  :)
  3. Not having to put on 3 layers of clothing, coat, gloves, and boots…hallelujah…hallelujah…hallelulululujah.  :)
  4. Digicel upstairs Trincity Mall…customer service was great!
  5. LaVita Sap…service top notch.  Loved it!
  6. Just being with my family…PRICELESS.

The Bad 30/30 in T&T

  1. Customer service…OMG…it dreadful, it doesn’t exist.  My eyes rolled back in my head so many times I’m surprised I could still see.  At one point I thought I was possessed.  Could you imagine I got cuss for asking for my own change, for some reason I was suppose to accept that they did not have any change in the cash register and walk away.  Madness, not when I’m getting an attitude.
  2. That SUN…that sun was too hot, really, really hot.  It was fire.  I felt like a chicken on a BBQ grill.
  3. ‘D’ traffic…grrrrr and the lawlessness on the road…crazy and scary.
  4. The underage drinking and smoking…ridiculous.
  5. ‘Crapo smoke yuh pipe’ if you can’t afford to pay for healthcare at the private hospitals.  Worst yet if you need emergency heart surgery…all $000,000.00 must be paid in full and surgery will only be performed when the accountant inform the doctor that the money has been deposited.
  6. I could go on but the list is to long…it’s just that I saw so much ’dotishness’ at one point I thought I was in the twilight zone.

The Huh??? 30/30 in T&T

  1. Sweaters, pullovers, hoodies, and scarves….WHY??? It’s 90 degrees, why, why would you torture yourself?  That is just plain stupid.  Worst yet the stores have the mannequins dressed in winter clothing.  Style will kill Trinis first before the criminals do.

Of course I tried my best not to let the bad and the stuipd conquer the good.  I was just happy to be home with my family and thankful that my Dad was able to ring in 2010 with his family.

Sometimes we are our own worst enemies

we are our own worst enimies

Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?  ~Maurice Freehill

Are we afraid of the light in Trinidad & Tobago?  Are we so afraid of change that we rather complain and live a foolish life?

  1. We complain about the PNM Government, but we continue to dip our finger in the red ink and vote them right back in.
  2. We complain about the traffic, but only a few choose to carpool.
  3. We complain about the crime, but do not report the drug dealers or gangs in our neighborhood.
  4. We complain why not to elect a Prime Minister of Indian descent, but does it really matter what race we elect to lead the country?  Once they are capable, competent, honest and have integrity race should not be a factor.
  5. We complain we need change, but are we doing enough in your own little world to make change?
  6. We complain about flooding, but we still continue to dispose of our garbage in the rivers, drains, sidewalks, and on the streets.
  7. We complain about customer service, but we continue to shop and dine at these businesses.
  8. We complain about the foreigners taking our jobs, but they are the ones who clock-in on time, do not abuse sick time, and work eight productive hours.
  9. We complain about corruption, but do not report unethical behaviour.  We all to often know the person(s) willing to illegally give  us the driver’s permit, passport, etc for a small fee.
  10. We complain about family values being non-existent, but are we spending quality time with our children, are we having family nights?
  11. We complain about the youths, but are we volunteering our time and or mentoring at youth facilities?

I could continue with the list of complaints, but why bother; our mentality, “We Like it So!”

It’s important to note that there are a few Trinbagonians who do not accept the dark, who spend quality time with their children, who have stop complaining and are making change, and who do NOT ”Like it So!”  Just look around and you’ll see them at your office, on the internet, and in your neighbourhood.  These are the people who make a difference towards a better country and a brighter future.  Are you making a difference or are you afraid of the light?

Huh??? (to Acting Police Commissioner James Philbert)

CoP to kidnapper’s families…We’re Sorry

From the express:- “I wish to extend condolences to the families of those who perished yesterday (Wednesday). I say this with the greatest sincerity,” Philbert said.

I think they (the law enforcement) normally defend what they had to do under the circumstances.  Am I missing something???

Was Commissioner James Philbert right or wrong in his decision to extend condolences to the families of the criminals?  The comments left by readers at the end of the article from the express and the guardian are very interesting.

double kudos to ASP Johnny Abraham, Sgt Wayne Lawrence, McKenzie and the brother

This is cause for a mini “Hip Hip Hooray”, because this kind of rapid response rarely happens.

Kudos to SanFest

For bringing crime center stage.  However the turnout to see the production was low according to the express. Am  I surprised?  No, because in Trinidad if it’s not advertised as an all-inclusive fete with all the soca stars performing it’s not worth attending.

It’s very important that we support our Arts & Culture and the youths of our nation.

To the people who try and make every effort to attend and show support, kudos to you.

SanFest is organised by the San Fernando Arts Council in conjunction with the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago.

The finals are taking place daily until November 5 at the Creative Arts Centre, Circular Road, San Fernando.

This year’s theme is “The Arts-The Heartbeat and Soul of A Nation”.

Happy Divali

Happy DiwaliDeepavali is a festival where people from all age groups participate. They give expression to their happiness by lighting earthen ‘diyas’ (lamps), decorating the houses, bursting firecrackers and inviting near and dear ones to their households for partaking in a sumptuous feast. The lighting of lamps is a way of paying obeisance to god for attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace, valor and fameread more
