Sometimes we are our own worst enemies

we are our own worst enimies

Who is more foolish, the child afraid of the dark or the man afraid of the light?  ~Maurice Freehill

Are we afraid of the light in Trinidad & Tobago?  Are we so afraid of change that we rather complain and live a foolish life?

  1. We complain about the PNM Government, but we continue to dip our finger in the red ink and vote them right back in.
  2. We complain about the traffic, but only a few choose to carpool.
  3. We complain about the crime, but do not report the drug dealers or gangs in our neighborhood.
  4. We complain why not to elect a Prime Minister of Indian descent, but does it really matter what race we elect to lead the country?  Once they are capable, competent, honest and have integrity race should not be a factor.
  5. We complain we need change, but are we doing enough in your own little world to make change?
  6. We complain about flooding, but we still continue to dispose of our garbage in the rivers, drains, sidewalks, and on the streets.
  7. We complain about customer service, but we continue to shop and dine at these businesses.
  8. We complain about the foreigners taking our jobs, but they are the ones who clock-in on time, do not abuse sick time, and work eight productive hours.
  9. We complain about corruption, but do not report unethical behaviour.  We all to often know the person(s) willing to illegally give  us the driver’s permit, passport, etc for a small fee.
  10. We complain about family values being non-existent, but are we spending quality time with our children, are we having family nights?
  11. We complain about the youths, but are we volunteering our time and or mentoring at youth facilities?

I could continue with the list of complaints, but why bother; our mentality, “We Like it So!”

It’s important to note that there are a few Trinbagonians who do not accept the dark, who spend quality time with their children, who have stop complaining and are making change, and who do NOT ”Like it So!”  Just look around and you’ll see them at your office, on the internet, and in your neighbourhood.  These are the people who make a difference towards a better country and a brighter future.  Are you making a difference or are you afraid of the light?

Huh??? (to Acting Police Commissioner James Philbert)

CoP to kidnapper’s families…We’re Sorry

From the express:- “I wish to extend condolences to the families of those who perished yesterday (Wednesday). I say this with the greatest sincerity,” Philbert said.

I think they (the law enforcement) normally defend what they had to do under the circumstances.  Am I missing something???

Was Commissioner James Philbert right or wrong in his decision to extend condolences to the families of the criminals?  The comments left by readers at the end of the article from the express and the guardian are very interesting.

double kudos to ASP Johnny Abraham, Sgt Wayne Lawrence, McKenzie and the brother

This is cause for a mini “Hip Hip Hooray”, because this kind of rapid response rarely happens.

Kudos to SanFest

For bringing crime center stage.  However the turnout to see the production was low according to the express. Am  I surprised?  No, because in Trinidad if it’s not advertised as an all-inclusive fete with all the soca stars performing it’s not worth attending.

It’s very important that we support our Arts & Culture and the youths of our nation.

To the people who try and make every effort to attend and show support, kudos to you.

SanFest is organised by the San Fernando Arts Council in conjunction with the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago.

The finals are taking place daily until November 5 at the Creative Arts Centre, Circular Road, San Fernando.

This year’s theme is “The Arts-The Heartbeat and Soul of A Nation”.

Happy Divali

Happy DiwaliDeepavali is a festival where people from all age groups participate. They give expression to their happiness by lighting earthen ‘diyas’ (lamps), decorating the houses, bursting firecrackers and inviting near and dear ones to their households for partaking in a sumptuous feast. The lighting of lamps is a way of paying obeisance to god for attainment of health, wealth, knowledge, peace, valor and fameread more

dial “m” for murder

Murder toll as of October 4, 2009 according to the trinidad express is 411.

Too much! Wait till you have lived here longer. Look down the valley! See the cloud of a hundred chimneys that overshadows it! I tell you that the cloud of murder hangs thicker and lower than that over the heads of the people. It is the Valley of Fear, the Valley of Death. The terror is in the hearts of the people from the dusk to the dawn. Wait, young man, and you will learn for yourself. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle – The Valley of Fear

Jackass of the Day Award

jackass-award2Today’s Jackass of the Day Award goes to retired Snr Supt Errol Denoon for an assanine comment that makes him truly worthy of the award.  Below is retired Snr Supt Errol Denoon assanine comment.

Now whether PC James’s lone intervention in a robbery was the correct procedure or not remains to be determined but according to retired Snr Supt Errol Denoon, “he (the officer) has to make that judgment call and if everything works out the way he wants it he will be called a hero but if it doesn’t well…”

What kind of assanine comment is that?  “But if it doesn’t well…”  Regardless of the outcome, and if in fact PC James did try to stop a crime in progress at least he was doing his job, i.e. protect and serve.

This is one jackass I so glad in retirement!

SHOOT FIRST… Ask Questions LATER!!!

So says South African President Jacob Zuma

South African President Jacob Zuma Tuesday threw his weight behind calls for tougher policing against gun-toting criminals in one of the world’s most violent societies.

“My thinking is that once a criminal takes out the gun, the intention is clear. The police must then act to protect himself or herself and the citizens,” Zuma said.  Click here for rest of artice.

My thinking is the same.  So what’s your thinking?  Should Trinidad & Tobago adopt this policy to control the crime rate?  If you reduce the number of criminals, do you reduce the number of crimes?

affidavit, lies, favors, and power

So who do you believe?  If there’s any truth to these allegations I say, “Shame on all the so-called “leaders” of this country who talk big and act little.”

Alleged services offered by the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen

The following are services which the affidavit says were offered to the PNM by the Jamaat-al-Muslimeen:

  • That the Jamaat would work within the crime-ridden area to bring about a reduction in crime;
  • That the Jamaat would work within the poor areas in the marginal constituencies to mobilise the voting persons to vote. These areas were referred to as “ghetto areas”;
  • That in particular areas, the Jamaat and its members would be responsible for developing strategies to ensure a high or higher-than-usual turnout of voters in the marginal constituencies;
  • That the Jamaat would publicly come out in favour of the ruling party in Government and endorse the PNM party for re-election;
  • That the Jamaat and its members would work actively in campaigning for the PNM party in the marginal seats.
  • The Jamaat would “go to the people” and ensure that they voted and voted for the PNM party.
  • That the Jamaat would be responsible for ensuring the orderly implementation of social programmes in the targeted marginal constituencies.

Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me.  Fool me the third time…I’m obviously a damned fool!  My question is how long will the PNM Sheeple continue to blindly follow their leader over the cliff?
